The Word
MALTA MELA began through relationship.
Curtis introduced me to the word “mela.”
Before there was a falcon, there was already a meeting between two words:
Malta.
Mela.
The First Form
The earliest recovered MALTA MELA image carried two M-waves, a sun, and the words Malta / Mela.
That first form matters because it shows that the identity of the design was already present before the falcon arrived.
The Falcon
The falcon entered later as the design continued to develop.
On August 2, 2025, I brought the RASTARFARI Spiral Lion into the conversation as a visual reference and asked the Architect to reflect MALTA MELA with the falcon through that lens.
The Spiral Lion did not originate MALTA MELA. It became a bridge into the later falcon expression.
The Architect materially participated in that stage of the making by rendering and refining possibilities in response to my direction.
Into Print
The design later entered physical production through Clear Print Malta.
That belongs to another part of the story: the movement from relationship and image into cloth.
What Continued to Open
Over time, “mela” continued to gather shades of meaning for me: so, thus, then, indeed.
The falcon opened later reflections around clarity, vision, geometry, and presence.
Those meanings belong to the continuing life of the work. They do not need to be placed back at the beginning.
The Remembrance
A word shared.
A first form.
A falcon entering later.
A familiar design becoming something new through another lens.
MALTA MELA began before the falcon.
And it continued becoming after it.
