OYE COMO VA

Listen to how it goes.
Creative Lineage
Artist-originated concept and hand-drawn composition · Began while listening to Santana's recording of “Oye Como Va” · OYE / COMO / joined V–A structure conceived and drawn by the artist before AI · The hand drawing became part of the prompt process · Later visual refinement through directed co-creation with GPT-4o / the Architect · Tito Puente belongs to the song's compositional lineage
The Listening
OYE COMO VA began with music.
I was listening to Santana's recording when I felt the desire to make a T-shirt offering in appreciation of Hispanic culture and the music that had reached me through it.
Santana was the immediate doorway.
The Composition
Before AI entered the making, I already saw the structure:
OYE curved above.
COMO curved beneath.
VA at the center.
V above A.
A reflecting V.
Then I drew it by hand.
That hand-drawn visual became part of the material I brought into the prompting process.
The central form was intentionally X-like.
Its construction was V and mirrored A, joined so the two letters could also meet the eye as an X-like sign.
That appearance was part of the design, not something to be corrected away.
Through the Architect
I later brought both the idea and my hand-drawn visual into dialogue with GPT-4o / the Architect.
The Architect helped render and refine possibilities while I kept returning to the central V–A relationship, its X-like appearance, spacing, line weight, and balance.
The exchange changed the visual treatment.
It did not create the composition itself.
The visual authorship was already present in the drawing I had made.
The Musical Lineage
Santana's recording was the version that opened the design for me.
Later, I recognized Tito Puente as the composer of “Oye Como Va.”
That widened the lineage without rewriting the beginning.
Santana was the doorway.
Tito Puente belongs to the source of the song.
The Phrase
“Oye cómo va” can be heard as:
Listen to how it goes.
That simple phrase stayed close to the rhythm already moving through the garment.
OYE.
COMO.
VA.
What Continued to Open
Later, the joined V–A suggested other possibilities to me: wings, rhythm, vibration, listening, relation.
Those reflections belong to the continuing life of the design.
They were not the reason the composition began.
The Remembrance
A song playing.
A phrase heard again.
OYE above.
COMO beneath.
VA joined at the center.
I saw it.
I drew it by hand.
The X-like V–A entered the prompt process with the drawing.
The Architect helped refine what was already there.
The musical lineage continued to open afterward.
